Cooling fans only working at one speed ?
Feb 17th, 2011 at 6:44pm

On the 85/2 and later 944's there is a double set of
resistors for the cooling fans -
I know by the amount of posts to the forum how many of you
have problems with the fans, relays, and such.

So,
I was looking at a couple of cars I had apart and noticed
that on both of them the wiring that goes to the fan
resistors was all rotten and corroded.

I checked on some other cars we had here and low and behold
this wiring on ALL of them was crap.

I checked with my friend Vinny at Gulf Performance to see
what the deal is, and this is what we all need to know.

The resistors work the low speed side of the fans.
12 volts goes in and 8 to 10 volts comes out.

Thatís how the fans have a high and low speed operation
Itís run through these resistors

What this corrosion does is allow the car to run hotter
because there is no low speed.

Also because of the corrosion, the wiring itself gets hot
and burns off the insulation that covers the wiring.

SO GUYS CHECK YOUR RESISTOR WIRING!!
