Awesome progress, glad to see a fellow 944S owner jumping into the fray!

Not to be a buzz kill, but if you have any doubts about the status of your timing belt and its rollers/idlers/pulleys, please please make it a priority!

You are not being a buzzkill. Car is not being driven daily. Reason for Steering rack was to have it stop spewing steering fluid on my garage floor. Timing belt is on my list. It still looks good from the top hole but i know is beyond the 3 year mark of the typical replacement time most talk about.

Cap and rotor replaced. Steering rack I may do on my day off in November. Time to work on the car is tough with new baby being here.

Found these in my area..

Cup wheels. Only thing i dont like is the 16x6 front with 16x8 rear.  Thats a pretty sizable difference.

Yay or Nay?

Those are wheels off of a 964.  You want the 968 wheels, 16x7 and 16x8.  That's what I run on my 944S with 225/50/16 Conti DWs.  No complaints.

Alright..
Got around to doing another portion in the car..
First was the privacy cover:

Out:

Retracted:

You can also see the 18mm rear sway bar i picked up. Has to be cleaned up and painted before it goes on.   Cheesy

Next up:
Still in the process of replacing the leaking steering rack. Wow what a mess this is/creates. I have the old one removed. Waiting on a few pieces from Steve/Ian which should arrive next week.

Need to clean up the old pieces before i put it all back together. Man i really wish i had a parts washer for these things.

PS bracket:

Currently how the car is sitting

PS old and new racks

My almost finalized workspace. Need to finish setting up the PC and put it under the workbench.

So NOW i know what people talk about with replacing the steering rack.. what a PITA!

First rack i got was the WRONG SIZE.. it was about two inches short overall.. Returned it for the correct one. The new one didnt come with the tie rod arms, had to buy those separate.
Those Tie rod arms came with the tie rods, so the one i purchased now is wasted $$.. Frustrating.

So at this point, New rack is back in car, mostly everything is buttoned back up but i am having a bit of trouble with the power steering return line not sitting nicely on the lower frame rail. Once thats fixed i can fill the PS fluid, bleed the system and hopefully no leaks.

This has been 6 months of nothing but headaches!

On a side note..
-Got my KLA Strut bar. Mounted and locked in place. Pictures to come this weekend
-Got a rear 18mm sway bar, in the process of cleaning it up. Will be mounted once the PS rack is in and all set.

So i've been actively looking for a steering wheel replacement.. Was looking at one of the Momo wheels and hubs. Anyone know a good site that sells the items as a combo? I do not believe Ian/Steve still have them in the 944online store anymore.

I REALLY want to drive the car again. There is someone at my Job (new job i just took) that drives a SUPER clean 914.. ill need to grab a picture next time he drives it in.

More to come!

Not far from the power steering rack being done. Just finding the time these days seems to be getting harder.

Other things completed:

18mm rear sway. Cleaned and on!

KLA front sway is on:

Because i was tired of the dirt and grime on some of the smaller parts.. ive been using this to clean the parts up..

First run of the PS bolts and brackets.. had to run it several times and clean some of the harder grime by hand but what a difference!

So hopefully within the next month ill be able to get the PS lines done and torqued, fill, bleed system. Then its off for alignment!

Another item on order too, more to come on that.  Cheesy

I just noticed that my door handles on each side of my car are different.. the Passenger side has the script in it and the driverside is plain.. This cannot be normal..

Will be posting updates this weekend on progress!

Alrighty! Car is back on the ground and aligned at least to go straight for now! Will be bringing to Shop to have it fully aligned soon.

Next up:
Momo Race Steering wheel Installed:

I had the same horn issues everyone else is having and after some investigation.. i know WHY everyone has issues. Will be doing a write-up on it when i can get to it.

From the Inside:

I also bought a new trunk seal. If you have not replaced it.. you should. Nice and tight and also now the trunk has enough spring to lift on its own!

I also bought the sunroof seal which im hoping i can tackle today.

Took her around the block and everything seems nice and tight.

Happy 4th everyone!

Almost 2 years without posting.. shame on me!

Well ended up building a new house. The 944 got its own 12x20 bay. A little small for my liking but its workable.

Upon moving the car to the new digs (pictures to come) the fan seems to only turn on when its set to 4. I've read that the resistor needs to be cleaned.. Anyone have any recommendations on best way to do this?
