Stoopid Fresh Air (heater) Blower Question

I don't know what normal operation is because I've never seen it, hence the question.

The fresh air blower switch has four positions: 0 I II III

None worked, I took the plastic cover off the blower and shot Deoxit into the windings and give it a little push with a screwdriver, and got positions II and III to work.

So it worked on high and one step down from high.

After about another hour or two on the engine (not in a row, but 15 minutes here and there, idling mostly in the driveway while I worked on other things) position I started to work too.

So right now, 0 is off, I is really low, II is higher, and III is wide open.

Here's my knuckled headed question.

Is 0 off (like logic suggests) or is the blower supposed to be on even in the 0 position?

Thanks!
Keith

Actually, the blower fan does operate at a minimum speed when the vent switch is turned off. This allows for some constant cabin air cycling.

Ugh, of course it never dawned on me to look in the owner's manual. Sorry, thank you.

What I had seen were old forum posts that say ambiguous (?) things like, "When the key is in the On position, the fan is always on." Well, you mean it has power and can be turned on, or it comes on low in the 0 position? I mean zero is zero, right people, the universal symbol for NOTHING?

Hahahaha, okay, so I'm still "missing" the lowest speed. Maybe in a week it'll be back too. Smiley

Thanks!

Have you checked the fan resistor? Look for corrosion/damage at the connections or the unit itself.

That "off" setting isn't really off.  It's a carbon monoxide safety issue.  Cars are required to always have some fresh air flow into the cabin when the car is on.
