Weird front suspension clunk when backing out/turn

Hi guys,  I have an 85/1 that has developed a right front clunk when backing out and turning, not when going over bumps or uneven road. I have searched the forum for answers without luck.

Jacking and grabbing the wheel and pulling in every direction shows everything to be tight.

I have new (< 2 years) ball joints, aftermarket strut mounts, all bushings, track rods inner and outer, wheel bearings (all from Ian) shocks and just about everything else.

Strut top bolts are tight but move up and down a bit when the wheel is lifted (very odd)

Steering is fine, alignment spot on and subframe bolts tight. It's driving me mad. Any ideas?

Check for cracks in the sheet metal around the strut top mount.  I don't know why the bolts would move other than that.

Do this, cut the wheel hard, then park it and get out and wiggle the wheel then.
You may find play somewhere when turned over hard.
Real common with conventional steering boxes, but not with rack-n-pinions.
Could be a ball joint or other.

You say the strut top bolts move up an down. That should not happen. Not certain what you mean exactly but the top bolts on the strut should not be moving.

Ahh, I missed that. Strut top moves?

Yeah, that bearing is shot then. Pulled away from the rubber.
That will knock around and make noise, wear tires funny, throw alignment off...
