Guys my 1987 power sunroof finally stopped working, Let me rephrase that, the motor still works, But either the infamous gear stripped out OR the teeth on the track broke, What Im asking is, What is required to change over to full manual?? Does the latches in the rear have to be removed along with the complete motor assy?? Has anyone written a complete tutorial with step by step instructions. Thanks guys I need help!!

The rear roof trim panel is also different.  You can make it work, but it will be bent a little at the latches.

I don't like my manual sunroof.  You cannot open it while driving unless of course you're ok with risking a crash.

Even though this is not a "complete" repair sequence it is hundred weight about the cam on the back of the motor, I guess it is in the probability sequence if you have the other correct parts.

You would need to obtain the parts listing from the 87 'catalog if indeed it needs the cam part on the back of the motor in the hatch area of the L side.

I just had to refurbish my power roof last week.

I found the limit switches were not getting "made" by the cam.
The support bracket that presses the cam against the switches had bent out and was not making contact with the switches.
I tweaked the metal tab so the switches got made.

I also took everything apart and cleaned all the old grease (glue) and re-lubed everything.
As usual, the gears in the actuator were both stripped from the cam failure (just kept on trying to close the sun roof).
So that got new parts and new grease too.

Everything fixed, cleaned, greased.. Works like new.. .
