ECU PROGRAMMING 1987 924S

I was looking to buy a used ECU for my 1987 924S. It is part #944.618.121.04. Do I need to reprogram the ECU, or do I just take my original EPROM chip out and install in the replacement unit?

Hi Hawk the computers in these cars are plug and play no programming needed. Unless you have a performance chip in your current ECU then you do not need to even swap the chip.

If you do have a performance chip I would recommend plugging the replacement ECU in your car with whatever chip comes in it first to make sure the ECU is good.

The reason for doing that is because sometimes the chip is the problem so making sure the replacement ECU works first before swapping the chip will help troubleshoot later if you have problems.

Thanks for the tip. i will reinstall the original chip. The aftermarket chip is an Autothority. I checked my injector harnesses for shorts and the harness is good. The injectors are all at about 2.50 ohms. With ECU in, I remove a single injector connector and I get 12v both pins (engine not running). Since the red black wire runs through the ECU to ground, then I can assume the ECU is faulty.

Sounds like one of the injector drivers in your ecu is bad.

Injector driver bad: are you referring to the Siemens IC 0127 which is a 14 pin? I have tried finding one, but no such luck. I  have checked the Darlington transistors and other components in the fuel injection circuit and everything looks good. Did a re-solder of components, and reinstall of original chip and it will still not start.

The injection drivers are 3 pin I believe. Most of the components are available from Mouser or Digi-key.
